Join Thane Gannaway-Garvey from Wurundjeri Woi-wurring Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, to genuinely understand, value and respect the importance of recognizing the Welcome to Country and truth of Australia’s history, to celebrate the deep knowledge of First Nations communities, acknowledge past wrongs and to begin to build a structured future together where we can play our part in righting those wrongs in order to work towards a more culturally sensitive and inclusive community. Alongside Thane, Kylie Gillan  from Russell Kennedy will discuss the importance of their Reconciliation Action Plan, the strategic framework that includes practical actions that driving their contribution to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples both internally and in the communities in which it operates.

Presented by

Kyle Gillan
Principal at Russell Kennedy

Kyle Gillan is a Principal at Russell Kennedy Lawyers specialising in the construction and infrastructure sector working from the Melbourne office.  Kyle is the co-chair of Russell Kennedy’s RAP Committee with Principal, Donna Rayner since 2023.  He is committed to reconciliation efforts with indigenous Australians and promoting that work through the RK RAP Committee.  Kyle is married with three children and lives in Warrandyte.

Russell Kennedy is dedicated to creating and participating in a meaningful process of reconciliation as part of the broader national reconciliation movement. Our key aims in embarking on our first RAP are to celebrate the deep knowledge of First Nations communities, the longest continuing cultures in the world, acknowledge past wrongs and to begin to build a structured future together where we can play our part in righting those wrongs through our own reconciliation initiatives.

We believe that this is not achievable without guidance from and collaboration with First Nations Peoples, especially the Wurundjeri and Gadigal peoples, on whose lands our offices are located. Our RAP is not only about reparations and relationship building through practical and achievable actions, it is a way forward for us as a firm to learn more about Australia’s First Nations histories. It is an opportunity to incorporate our learnings into our business planning and into our workplace culture, thereby strengthening our understanding and sense of solidarity with First Nations Peoples.
