Associate – Family & Relationship Property

Marks & Worth Lawyers & IP Specialists

New Zealand - Dunedin

Welcome to Marks & Worth Lawyers. You’re in good company. We’re a Dunedin-based team providing specialist legal services and practical, human advice across a range of civil law areas. Relationships matter to us, and we take the time to understand the people behind the legal issue so we can give advice that is clear, thoughtful and genuinely helpful.

The Opportunity:

This is a role with purpose, variety and room to grow. As an Associate in our Family & Relationship Property team, you’ll be trusted to take ownership of meaningful client work while being supported by experienced colleagues who are generous with their knowledge and genuinely invested in your development. You’ll help clients navigate some of the most personal and challenging moments in their lives, providing practical, empathetic advice on matters such as separation, contracting-out agreements, care arrangements, trusts and estate disputes. You’ll manage files from start to finish, prepare court documents and agreements, and appear in negotiations and court hearings where needed. You’ll also have the opportunity to deepen your skills in Collaborative Dispute Resolution, work closely with the Director - Family & Relationship Property, and contribute to a team known for thoughtful advice, strong relationships and down-to-earth professionalism.

About You:

You’ll be a New Zealand-qualified lawyer with solid experience in family and relationship property law, with at least 4-5 years PQE. You’ll hold a current practicing certificate and feel confident managing files independently, including more complex matters. You’ll bring strong research, drafting and advocacy skills, a sound understanding of Family Court processes, and an interest in Collaborative Dispute Resolution. You will also have a genuine interest in helping clients achieve the best possible outcome. Just as importantly, you’ll be calm, organised, thoughtful and good with people. You’ll know how to build trust, communicate clearly, and support clients with care during difficult times. We’re looking for someone who is professional, grounded, and committed to doing good work.

Why Marks & Worth?

This is a great opportunity to do rewarding work in a firm that values both excellence and people. At Marks & Worth, we take our work seriously, but not ourselves. We care about doing a great job for our clients, supporting each other well, and creating a workplace people enjoy being part of. You’ll join a team that is experienced, approachable and genuinely collaborative, with plenty of opportunities to keep growing your career. If you’re looking for a role where you can do meaningful work, build strong client relationships and be part of a firm that is both professional and human, we’d love to hear from you.
