Risk Group Meeting
It is conservatively estimated that worldwide there are 40 million victims of modern slavery. Thousands right here in Australia.
Australia now has a Modern Slavery Act. The Act seeks to highlight the issue of modern slavery, and the harm it causes, by requiring certain "reporting entities," to identify and report on their supply chain risks with respect to modern slavery. Once identified, firms must then implement and publish an action plan to address any risks identified.
If your firm has annual revenue in excess of $100 million, then you are a reporting entity and must produce a modern slavery report. This Act is a further expression of the trend towards triple bottom line reporting, that is social, ethical and environmental reporting trends which continue to become more prevalent in tenders of legal services. If you conduct business, such as supply legal advice to a reporting entity, then you will likely need to understand this Act and how it may impact your ability to provide legal services to reporting entities.
At this round table discuss you will learn more about what modern slavery is, and the Modern Slavery Act. You will gain an understanding of how this could impact your firm, large or small. And what things you can do to minimise the harm of modern slavery in your own firm.
