Fabian Horton, Lecturer | The College of Law

Fabian Horton is a lecturer at The College of Law Victoria and Director of the virtual law firm, ConnectLaw. He is the foundation chairperson of the Technology and the Law Committee of the Law Institute of Victoria. Fabian presents nationally and internationally on topics such as cyber-security, artificial intelligence, and law apps. He advises both government and non-government organisations on many aspects of technology and its impact on the law and was the lead author of the Law Council of Australia cyber-security initiative Cyber Precedent. Fabian is currently undertaking his PhD researching how technology affects the law.

Overview:

Our presenters will discuss the new ‘Notifiable Data Breach Scheme’ under the Privacy Act 1988 that comes into effect on 22 February 2018.  During this session, the panel will outline what changes to the Act mean for businesses (including law firms), both large and small, and the practical steps people need to take to prepare for the new scheme.
