Taking talent to the next level - Incentives, risks and processes
Presenter: Dr Peter Lynch
From one perspective, an annual performance and rewards review process is a necessary, but fortunately brief evil where the firm is ritually held to ransom by its producers – the firm’s choices being either to roll over on demands or have an office that resembles a revolving door.
There is, however, an alternative and better perspective – and one which gains even greater traction in labour-scarce markets. This is one where ongoing constructive conversations about personal development make formal annual salary reviews relatively minor events in the scheme of things.
We have proven that this alternative approach can make a significant positive difference to both turnover and internal wellbeing - and importantly, firms don’t need big investments in HR infrastructure to pull it off.

Stages Framework - The context of stages is Feelings.
This framework identifies and places feelings along the business cycle thus allowing business owners and managers to understand why they are feeling and behaving in a certain way as well as the staff.
This will also highlight why some partners may be feeling disillusioned and unable to make decisions.
Outcomes:
· Staff having less judgement about other peoples behaviour and communication
· Partners understanding why they are feeling like they are
· Partners and managers can manage staff differently according to where they are on the stages framework
· Frantic staff can be managed more effectively and teamed up with people who are not frantic
Partners can support each other and identify strategies to move themselves out of certain stages
The context of Red Blue Black is Responsibility.
This framework enables Principles to manage staff more effectively and assist with using their time management and decision making
Outcomes:
Allows staff and the principle to utilise their time more effectively
Increasing efficiencies thus maximising the use of time and resources
Provide a common language in the school for clear communication
Empowers staff to take appropriate decisions and avoid unnecessary reliance on the principle
