ALPMA hosts Law Society of England & Wales
ALPMA is pleased to offer an opportunity for Robert Haslett, President of the Law Society of England and Wales to present at its IT Innovation seminar on 10 March in Sydney. Mr Haslett will talk about the impact of Web 2.0 in changing the shape of the law practice in the UK. This is a great opportunity to hear how technology is impacting on the European legal market and to hear the views of an industry leader.
The Collaboration Revolution: How Social Networking and Web 2.0 will Impact on Law Firms
Presented by Dominic Thurbon, The Centre for Skills Development
Workers in knowledge organisations such as law firms spending approximately 25% of any given day searching for information in the form of either content or expertise. That's more than a day out of each week spent just searching for what we need to get the job done. In addition, 43% of staff will send information to a client each week that is simply wrong!
There is a better way to collaborate, source information and build productivity. The Web 2.0 revolution is helping businesses across various industries to better tap into the knowledge insider their worker's heads. Legal practitioners are no exception.
In this session:
- Gain an insight into the new ways of work being driven by the "Collaboration Revolution"
- Understand the tools driving these changes
- Learn how Web 2.0 tools are not fads or toys, but a new set of productivity tools
- Get motivated and inspired by the huge potential benefit of these tools
- Get a step-by-step outline on how these tools can be applied within your organisation

Extended Professional Development Workshop:
Pitching for Work - Achieving Preferred Status for your Firm
Presented by Trish Carroll, Galt Advisory
Pitching for work and winning work isn't about being the best. It's about being preferred. To be preferred, your pitch needs to be as good as you claim your firm is - it's the old sausage and sizzle story. All law firms have sausages to sell - but the ones who are great at pitching know how to sell the sizzle too.
In this interactive session, we'll focus on:
- How to make pitching a daily habit
- Why putting some emotion into your pitching is positive
- Developing a winning attitude
- Debunking myths about needing to be an extrovert or brilliant presenter to pitch and
- Key elements of pitching in formal situations

ALPMA - Women Lawyers Association NSW Launch - 2010 and Beyond: Flexible Working Arrangements Model
Guest Speaker: Nicole McKenna
The last two years has seen a marked growth in the number of lawyers moving to flexible working arrangements across the spectrum of legal services providers from the private and public sectors.
Law firms may soon become subject to the new "right to request" laws in the Fair Work Act 2009 and will need to have procedures in place for receiving and assessing requests for flexible work
The latest WLA project has been run jointly with ALPMA following member feedback that a model flexible working proposal would assist both lawyers and their employers to propose and consider requests for flexible work.
Please join us on this important occasion.
