December 07 Around the States - Western Australia
Since I returned to a small Practice management position, I have had the concern that there is not an adequate networking and continuing education association in WA. With that in mind, I have been speaking with the National Executive of the ALPMA about creating a WA branch. I went to the National Conference in Melbourne in October to meet with National and various State executive members and was very well received and encouraged that I was moving in the right direction. Just on a personal, professional level the conference was invaluable and gave me the encouragement we all need from time to time. I was particularly impressed by the presentations by Anders Sorman-Nilsson on Gen Y and Professor Stephen Mayson on Practice Management.
The WA branch plan is now moving forward and there are a reasonable number of managers around Perth who have indicated a willingness to be founding members. We are looking to have this new branch up and running by the first quarter of next year, with a launch in February or March. If you are a member of a firm with a Perth branch, please feel free to pass on my contact details to the local Manager to get on board as well. Watch this space as we incorporate, add members and begin to contribute to a national association. James Shadbolt
